Our Team

Divetech is very fortunate to have a number of very dedicated, talented and professional SCUBA Diving Instructors. All are SSI certified instructors who treat beginning divers with infinite patience and care, while challenging experienced divers to expand their horizons.

Edward Luedtke, SSI DCSI (Dive Control Specialist Instructor)
Edward describes himself as a 'people person,' and those who know him will tell you that that is quite an understatement! Ed literally grew up with Divetech: he started doing odd jobs around the shop at the age of 14, and was certified as a Dive Master and Dive Instructor before his 19th birthday. Shortly after that, he was leading dive trips for Dolphin Travel. With over 20 years in the business, he's developed a rapport with resorts and dive operators that really enhances his customers' vacation experience. One of the things Ed says he really values about diving is the bond that it creates. His clients come from all walks of life and circumstances, but the scuba diving experience provides a common ground that binds them all together. Edward is a member of the Divetech - SSI Total Dive Training Team. Ed is certified to teach a wide range of Specialty classes in addition to Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Master Diver and Dive Control Specialist certifications.

Interesting facts about Ed:
He's fluent in Spanish, thanks to having lived in Mexico for several years as a child. This is an especially useful skill when leading dive trips to Mexico and Central America. Edward met his wife, Cathy, on a scuba diving trip! On his own vacations, Ed likes to fish, play golf, and yes, scuba dive!

Justin Barlow, SSI DCSI
Justin says he was first introduced to scuba diving in Puerto Vallarta in 2000 by 'some random guy letting people try SCUBA' in a 4-foot pool! He went on to get his OWD certification in 2003 where he did his open water dives at Clear Springs Scuba Park in Terrell, Texas. Justin became associated with Divetech in 2007 when he stopped diving commercially and began training as a Dive Control Specialist on his way to becoming an instructor. He earned the SSI DCSI certification in 2007. Justin really enjoys teaching the EAN and the Stress & Rescue specialty courses. His favorite dive destinations are Fiji for the beautiful scenery, great diving, oh! and...the BIG sharks! He enjoys Cozumel because it is so close and easy; and the Gulf of Mexico because 'you wouldn't believe how much fish life there is out on the oil rigs...you never know what you might see!' Justin is a member of the Divetech - SSI Total Dive Training Team, and is certified to teach a wide range of Specialty classes in addition to Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Master Diver and Dive Control Specialist. Justin is currently taking instructor training in Advanced Nitrox and Technical Foundations. He says as an instructor he really likes meeting new people and watching them grow into comfortable, confident divers.

Amy Dunn, SSI DCS (Dive Control Specialist)
Since she was a little girl, Amy has dreamed that she could breathe underwater. She first began diving in June of 2000, and with that first dive, felt that the dream had become reality! She felt like she belonged in the underwater environment. Amy became OWD certified in October 2005 when she became associated with Divetech. Her favorite dive destinations are Mozambique (Indian Ocean) and Bonaire. As a Dive Control Specialist, Amy teaches Refresher courses and snorkel classes. Amy also assists the other Divetech Instructors in teaching a wide range of Specialty courses in addition to Open Water Diver. Her favorite courses to teach are Wreck Diving, Deep Diving, Communications and Boat Diving. Amy is so enthusiastic about diving that she wants to generate that same enthusiasm in her students. She says that she feels privileged to bring new divers into the Divetech fold. Now, as in her dreams, Amy gets to breathe underwater all the time with the added bonus of getting to bring new people along with her to share the experience!

Bob Karlin, SSI DCSI
Bob's first experience with scuba diving occurred around 11 years of age while on a family vacation in Florida. He and his brother went to the pool one morning and found someone willing to give diving instruction. Bob was hooked! He dove occasionally until having a "C" card became pretty much mandatory. In 1988, Bob took the Open Water Diver course and officially became a certified diver. By the time that course was completed and he was ready to move on to Advanced training, Bob's instructor had become affiliated with Divetech. Since the summer of 1988, Bob has been learning and teaching through Divetch. He received his OWD Instructor certification in September 1990, and his Master Diver Instructor certification in June 1991. He earned the SSI DCSI certification in 2007. Bob is a member of the Divetech - SSI Total Dive Training Team. Bob is certified to teach a wide range of Specialty classes in addition to Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Master Diver and Dive Control Specialist certifications. Bob's wife, Dana, is also a Dive Master and often helps out when he teaches a class.

Craig Kippola, SSI DCSI
Craig first received his Open Water Diver certification while in college. In 1998, he recertified with SSI due to the numerous great advances in dive gear and techniques. Craig says he was seriously bitten by the diving bug while in Cozumel and since then his wife, Dora, and their two children have also become certified divers. He became associated with Divetech when his son took the OWD course there. He felt very comfortable with the staff and has since been on dive trips in Nassau, Roatan, the Texas Gulf, Florida, the Grand Caymans, multiple trips to Cozumel and to his family's group trip favorite, Bonaire. Craig says that diving develops a unique close group of people who share the thrills not everyone is privileged to experience - he thinks group trips are great! Craig truly enjoys teaching OWD and the Digital Underwater Photography, Stress & Rescue and Enriched Air Nitrox - and a host of other - Specialty courses.  Craig is a member of the Divetech - SSI Total Dive Training Team. Craig is certified to teach a wide range of Specialty classes in addition to Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Master Diver and Dive Control Specialist certifications.
